About Me

Ashrufzz at Citrawarna Event

Welcome to Ashrufzz dot com. This page would be a brief introduction to my background, history, career and what I am interested in.

The Name (Ashrufzz)

In the beginning, I had some difficulties in choosing a name. Before this, I was using “Idrusz” (it had something related to my family’s name) as my nickname in chat rooms and any other account that needed a username. I never really liked my nickname but I couldn’t figure out what name to choose. Ashrufzz was a name that symbolizes my name with some buzz in the end to differentiate things just for the sake of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). So Ashrufzz it is.

My Educational Background

During my school years, I went to 2 boarding schools for the course of 5 years. I never really liked boarding school but I was actually those lucky ones who got selected. When I finished my SPM, I deliberately chose UiTM Shah Alam since it is the only Public University that is the nearest to my house. I was then thrown to UiTM in Bandar Pusat Jengka, Pahang which is located in the centre of the whole of Peninsular Malaysia.

I intended to pursue a course in Computer Science but I had an option to correct myself back by choosing the one and only course that is only available in UiTM Shah Alam. I finally made it to Shah Alam studying Mechanical Engineering (majoring in Automotive Technology). I had to extend almost a year of my study there because I find the subjects taught over there wasn’t in my interest. Nevertheless, by the time I graduated my Diploma, only a handful of my fellow friends made it through.

My Car World

When I was 19, my dad gave up his Volvo 240GL to me. The car was kind of way too big for me to handle but I managed to use it to get to my university class. The car was fuel thirsty even at RM1.10 per litre at that time. A RM10 fuel can only go up to 60 – 70km. The terrible part was the fuel meter was broken so I had to rely on the mileage to guesstimate my fuel level. I had the car run dry and stranded a couple of time. I then changed to a Suzuki Best RR110 motorbike after I crashed the car into a Perodua Kembara.

My father then bought me another car, a Daihatsu Charade Aura 1.0 CX. I then joined the Malaysian Daihatsu Charade Owner’s Club back in 2002 to 2004 before giving it up for a red Proton Iswara Aeroback 1.3 which I had sold it off after I got married. I used to own a maroon coloured Proton Wira 1.5 GLi (A) before I sold it off last year for a Perodua Alza Advanced Edition purple colour.

My Blogging Interest

I started blogging back in April 2004. I registered an account with Blogger (under a different name before changing to Ashrufzz later on) and had only one blog post and then didn’t write anything for 4 months. In August 2004, I got introduced to Xfresh.com blog. It was really fun blogging at Xfresh blog because I can interact with other bloggers at that time. They also had a Blogathon running shortly after I started blogging there. I won a few freebies after my Ask and You Shall Receive blog ranked 3rd on the Blogathon result that year. Since then, I got crazy updating my Xfresh blog with contents before things slowed down and Xfreshers who normally blog there started to move out of Xfresh blog and using other blogging platform. I don’t maintain that blog anymore, however I do maintain my blog on Google’s Blogger.com for certain pocket money making activities.

My intention of blogging is to record highlighted events or something interesting that happen in my life. It is also a place for me to hone my English writing skills.

The Geek Inside of Me

Before getting into Mechanical Engineering, I was already a computer geek. It got submerged during my engineering years and it emerged back when I started working.

When I was little my parent brought the entire family to the UK because my dad pursued his Degree in Electrical and Electronics at Polytechnic of Sunderland (Now it’s known as University of Sunderland). English became my favourite subject ever since I went to Richard Avenue Primary School. At that time, I played computer games that load up using a tape cassette. When I got back to Malaysia, my father bought a 286, 386, 486 and then went on to Pentium MMX, Pentium II, Pentium IV, Celeron and a Compaq Presario V3751AU laptop computer.

Right now, I do everything online. I spend most of my waking life in front of a computer. I even got married to my wife where I found online on Friendster. Now I have 2 cheeky and very good looking boys.

My Career

When I finished my Diploma in 2004, I did all kind of jobs from being a draughtperson, a telemarketer, distributing flyers, a dispatch rider and a small business office administrator. I then became a web developer for 6 months before I was offered a better job.

I was also a marketing and business development officer covering the marketing and commercial aspect of IT solutions and applications. Sometimes, I become the solutions architect where I draw diagram and suggest the use related software applications to fulfill the client’s requirement. Most of the time, my team and I would work on a product information, proposals and presentations to potential client.

Apart from that, I am also a webmaster for my company’s website and a few other websites apart from my blog of course. I normally use any available tools that are available on the internet and make use of it. Don’t ask me how I do it, I probably picked up the skills when I was studying and practicing car repairs. Nevertheless, I surf the internet a lot and I read a lot especially when it comes to “How Stuff Work”.
